Thinking and doing, theory and practise, why are these popularly regarded as opposites?
What is the point of thinking except to guide doing? How can doing not refine thinking?
The divide is unnatural, illogical, yet pervasive.
The origin of the divide seems lost in the labyrinth of Western intellectual history. Plato and his contemporaries had a vision of human excellence in which excellent action spring from excellent thinking. The pragmatic Romans also regarded thought as the origin of action.
For many other cultures, Asian and African, the divide is alien, bizarre but a fundamental feature of entry into globalised society.
