What should children see on tv?

Written by Andrew Rens on January 21st, 2009

ICASA has published a draft code of conduct for broadcasters. The primary focus of the code is on limiting sexual and violent content which children might be exposed to through broadcasts (radio and television). The code tends to use the similar language and phrases to the Film and Publications Act.

The code will only apply to broadcaster’s which don’t belong to a self regulating association of broadcaster’s with its own code. However this code should establish an informal base-line, a voluntary code which didn’t use this code as a baseline would be open to challenge by consumers, as insufficiently protective of children.

The draft is open for comment until 20 February.
